Waves, Wind & Music: Seal Greece Arrives in Volissos

Volissos, Chios — On July 24, the Chios Music Festival welcomed Seal Greece and Captain Loucas Gourtsoyannis of Aegean Cargo Sailing to the port of Volissos, as part of the campaign’s Awareness Voyage across the Aegean and Ionian seas. Sailing aboard the eco-friendly vessel Pelago, Captain Loucas brought with him a message of marine conservation, in harmony with the Festival’s mission to protect natural and cultural heritage.

The visit was marked by a heartfelt musical welcome from Giorgos Voreas-Melas and the band Astrageri, whose traditional sounds echoed the timeless connection between sea and song. This symbolic encounter bridged Greek seafaring tradition with cultural expression, spotlighting the urgent need to safeguard the Mediterranean monk seal.
