The Seal Greece AR experience is an interactive, browser-based tool designed to help recreational sailors and visitors understand when they’re near a protected Mediterranean monk seal habitat.
When you open the experience on your phone, you’ll meet Mona, the monk seal. She shares important information in a friendly, multilingual format — helping you understand the sensitivity of local marine ecosystems and encouraging respectful behavior.

An AR Experience Designed to Inform—Not Intrude
Τhe experience is crafted by artists, developers and conservation communicators. The lightweight, mobile-optimised web app uses minimal resources, comparable to a simple website.
- To safeguard sensitive habitats, the tool does not reveal live seal locations. It references only publicly available Natura 2000 areas—broad zones already recognised for their ecological value.
- All campaign content follows rigorous ethical guidelines, developed and validated with the IUCN expert group. Distance rules, habitat considerations and responsible-viewing advice ensure monk seals remain protected and undisturbed.
